Amazon has just announced that Amazon Echo is now able to give Yelp suggestions. Rumors that Amazon and Yelp would be joining forces have been around for some time and it seems that this is the first step in their program.
While the Amazon Echo hasn’t exactly been flying off the shelves, the robotic assistant named Alexa will now give out answers to any questions regarding local businesses straight from Yelp. Even though Alexa is not the most popular robotic assistant, you can rest assured that she will give you up to date information that comes directly from Yelp.
They have already explained on the site that all Echo owners who want to enable this Yelp service will have to enter their address in to the device. This will then enable it to give out location-based information from Yelp.
Amazon has provided a few examples for this service once it is functional. For example if you want some spicy Mexican food you can just ask Alexa to find a nearby Mexican restaurant. Or maybe you need some medicine urgently. In this case you would ask Alexa what the closing hours are for a nearby pharmacy.
The implications of this Yelp integration into the Echo platform could offer benefits for both companies. Experts in the field consider this a very wise move on the part of Amazon. They think that the company might even consider buying the local business search platform and integrate it into their already existing products.
It seems that if Amazon is willing to allow payments in the range of all the businesses that Yelp handles, this could bring a huge number of benefits. This includes the ability for Amazon to extend their mPOS solution. As for Yelp this move will quickly enhance their sponsored pages and their advertising.
Another positive influence that Yelp might have on Amazon is their ability to manage the problem of fake reviews. While Amazon have been struggling with this since their inception, Yelp have managed to handle the problem with some success. This means that Amazon could learn a thing or two from them with regards to fake or false reviews.
