Mothers who had a bariatric surgery are putting their children’s lives in danger if they do not wait for three years before getting pregnant. It seems that those women who had weight-loss surgery are at higher risk of giving birth to unhealthy babies. According to the researchers, if you wait longer before having a baby after you had a bariatric surgery, there are more changes you will not have any problem with your child.
Researchers used data from 1859 mothers with bariatric surgery and 8437 mothers who did not lose their weight due to a procedure. They discovered that bariatric surgeries can be really dangerous for a future mother. This happens because she has some nutritional issues.
Sometimes, the woman does not manage to have all the nutrients she needs and this can harm the baby. This is why many infants were born earlier than they should or even died. We are talking here about the children of mothers who had weight-loss surgery in less than three years. It would not be a surprise for the doctors if the baby would be born with malformations due to this issue.
It is important for a woman to have a normal weight before getting pregnant. For example, an obese woman could have more health issues during the pregnancy. However, if you are planning to have a baby and lose weight, there are two options. The first one would be to start eating healthy and exercising more. Another option would be to have a bariatric surgery. If you choose the second option, you should wait for three years before getting pregnant.
Of course, things are not simple with the bariatric surgery. You will have to go to a doctor who will give you all the details. He will tell you if you can do this surgery and what it implies. The good news is that with proper education, patients can wait only one or two years before having a baby. It depends on the diet every woman has after the surgery and how motivated she is during this period.
A baby is the most wonderful thing that can happen to a woman. It implies a lot of happiness, but also a big responsibility. A baby is exposed to many dangers, but most of them can be prevented by the mother.
