Blue Bell is trying to get back on the market after the devastating Listeria scandal has caused the ice cream company to retract all of their products.
The Listeria contamination of Blue Bell Creamery products has led to a total of three deaths this April. The company has shown perfect compliance with the law, so that it could resolve the matter as soon as possible. The company has made significant modifications to its production plants, so that they be in line with the standards demanded by the law.
They have improved the quality of their production lines and they have significantly upgraded their testing methods, so that contamination occurrences can be better prevented and easily detected, in the event that their measures fail. The employees have also received additional training so that they do not accidentally contaminate the products.
Now Blue Bell is ready to begin the testing of the efficacy of these newly imposed safety measures, as they have notified the Alabama Department of Public Health and the U.S. Food and Administration (FDA) that they are ready to begin the test ice cream production in their Sylacauga plant. This process could begin as early as next week.
However, Blue Bell still has quite a long road ahead before it can bring its products back on store shelves. The testing period is rather lengthy, because experts need to conduct extensive testing for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the plant and the Blue Bell products. Furthermore, the testing needs to be repeated many times before the plant can be declared Listeria free.
If all goes well though, Blue Bell ice cream could make it back to supermarkets and stores by the end of the summer. It will be rather difficult for to company to regain the trust of the public, as the stigma of the Listeria contamination will stick with their products for a long time.
But there are quite a few Blue Bell hardcore fans that are waiting impatiently for their favorite ice cream to come back and they say that they have no problem with buying the product from here on.
“I’m excited. In fact, I have not bought any other ice cream because it’s my favorite” said Blue Bell hardcore fan Elonda Hipkins. “Living in Texas, it’s a part of the culture so it’s just something you gotta do,” added Breylin Becton.
Blue Bell will need all the support it can get to make it back to its former popularity rates, because the financial loss that the company is suffering at this point will require quite a long recovery time. According to a Blue Bell spokesman, the company has laid off 37% of its total employee force of 3,900 people.
It remains to be seen how fast the ice cream company can make a comeback, but it seems that there is still a chance at survival after the Listeria scandal because they have displayed exemplary conduct in repairing their mistakes and making sure that such a terrible thing never happens under their watch ever again.
