Today is a special day for all those foodies who can’t keep their hands off a fresh doughnut in the morning or during their work breaks. June 5th marks Donut Day this year. The first Friday of June has been celebrating Donut Day for more than 70 years.
The tradition started in 1938, when The Chicago Salvation Army created this celebration in order to honor the people who served donuts to soldiers fighting the World War I. Nowadays, this day usually has many donut stores give away free donuts to people all over the United States.
Both large franchises and independent stores might offer a free donut of the customer’s choice whenever he or she purchases a beverage. Donuts are associated with joy, color and the sweetness of life.
“Donuts have a special place in our country’s history and culture, creating moments of delight, lifting spirits and bringing people together at work and at home. We are proud to celebrate this timeless favorite on National Donut Day with our loyal guests,” said vice president of Dunkin Brands, Jeff Miller, who is also the executive chef in charge of product innovation at the company.
They are happy to announce that they will offer free donuts with any beverage their customers buy. This excludes Cheesecake Squares and Croissant Donuts.
The company offers a wide variety of flavors regarding both drinks and donuts. Thus, customers can enjoy a great diversity of flavored iced coffee and other drinks that are made with cookies along with their donut of choice, whose frosting and dipping can vary as well.
Moreover, Dunkin’ Donuts gives customers a chance to win prizes and have fun. All they have to do is log online onto CookieDunkGame.com and play the cookie game. They can win JetBlue travel certificates or free Iced Coffee for a year.
However, Dunkin’ Donuts is not the only company offering such wonderful treats to its customers. LaMar’s Donuts and Krispe Kreme are also offering free deserts to mark this special occasion.
LaMar’s Donuts offers customers a free donut without them having to do anything. They will also donate part of their sales on Friday to childhood hunger and people who are willing to make a contribution can do it on June 5th.
Krispe Kreme gives away free treats to its Facebook friends. All you have to do is get your free coupon and you can get your free donut, while supplies last, in any Krispe Kreme location in the U.S.
