This Friday night, we are having the second full moon this month, which is a very special astrological event called a blue moon. Due to the fact that it only comes by once every three or four years, it is something of a small wonder and therefore, it should be acknowledged and celebrated.
Most months we only get one full moon, but every once in while we get two of them. These blue moons come along because of the difference in the duration of the tropical year, commonly known as a solar year, that lasts approximately 365 days and the lunar cycle, that lasts approximately 29.5 days. Normally, one tropical year includes twelve lunar cycles and therefore, twelve full moons. But there are always a few days in the tropical year that pass to a thirteenth lunar cycle. This is why we do not have a full moon on the same day of the month.
When these days amount to a full a lunar cycle, there are two full moons in the same month. And it seems that this July is one in a blue moon, because we had the first full moon on July 2nd now, on July 31st we are getting the second one. While it will look like a regular full moon, a blue moon bears a special significance and people should know what is happening.
It is these small wonders that make our days better and it should not only be astronomy enthusiasts who get to have a very special night on Friday. So remember to look out to the sky and admire the blue moon, because it will be something worthy of remembrance.
This time the moon will not be colored, despite the name that hints to a shift in the moon’s appearance. However, an actual blue moon has an entirely different significance, as it only follows volcano eruptions. We see the moon as being blue in those moments because of the chemical compounds released in the atmosphere.
Remember that Friday evening will be ideal for a walk on the beach or a romantic dinner out in the open, as the blue moon will provide an enchanting mood, filled with hope and magic.
