Google is no longer just the name of a very efficient search engine. Every year, the company has expanded its services more and more. They have started selling cars, computers, mobile phones and watches, they have implemented numerous platforms for people to use. Obviously, they were not going to stop here.
According to recent reports, the Mountain View-based company are also going to start testing out a delivery service that they have been implementing. It was estimated that they are going to do so by the end of the year.
In other words, users will not only look up the closest grocery store on Google Map, but they might also have the products delivered at their door. Shopping for food is becoming redundant anyway, so it is no wonder there are so many companies that are lining up to make the trip to the supermarket for you.
The company confirmed the news about their new delivery service not too long after it was released by Bloomberg.
Basically, the new test-service will represent an expansion of Google Express, which is a same-day shopping service that was launched in San Francisco and Silicon Valley in 2013. In 2014, it also became available in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC. It was initially meant to be a same-day service, but it became available on a next-day basis as well.
Much like Instacart, Google will be associated with Costco and Whole Foods Market to make the delivery possible . This will help eliminate the logistic-related problems and the costs of a warehouse. For now, the service will only be available in San Francisco and probably Silicon Valley.
As expected, the company will have to face fierce completion because they surely are not the only ones providing these services. Apart from Instacart, there is also AmazonFresh and FreshDirect that focus on grocery delivery.
Moreover, there are also a few other companies that deliver various items, including groceries. These include Minibar and Saucey. It is expected that others will enter the competition in the near future as well.
In spite of that, Google’s new service will do nothing but benefit the economy. It was reported that the delivery industry is worth almost $ 11 billion a year in the United States.
