The “It’s amazing” viral video of teen waking up after heart transplant has a more touching story behind it than one might think. Trevor Sullivan, the 15 years old boy that is the star of the viral video has become the poster child of successful transplants and of the reason for which people should consider organ donation as an option.
“Vultures” are what doctors are called by grieved family members who lost someone dear in an accident, or to a sudden incident. The so-called “vultures” are there to ask if the family is considering organ donation and most of the Americans shudder at the idea of their loved one not being buried with all of his organs intact.
But there are those who say yes, and those are the people who, without knowing, save the life of a teenager from Michigan with a bad heart, or a mother from Chicago with slow kidneys, the possibilities are countless, the most important thing is not to forget where those organs are actually going. And Trevor Sullivan managed to remind the public just that.
“It’s amazing”, “I’m so happy”, “I can breathe” and “I’ve been waiting for so long” are the things that come out of the mouth of a 15-years-old that just went through a long heart transplant surgery. The boy is happy to be alive and you can see it from his smile and from the happiness with which he utters all those phrases while a deeply excited father films the entire scene.
The story behind the “It’s amazing” viral video of teen waking up after heart transplant is touching all on itself. Trevor first found out that there is something wrong with him in September 2014 when he started feeling very ill. It took the doctors a couple of months to figure out that the boy was suffering from a form of cardiomyopathy, an enlargement of the heart.
Over the months, his condition grew more and more unstable until he became a regular visitor at the Mott Hospital for Children in Michigan. His father says that the once happy and lively boy disappeared and Trevor was just a shadow of the old boy, his enlarged heart not even allowing him to breathe properly.
But, after 10 months on the waiting list, a phone call changed Trevor’s life. He was announced that a heart was ready for him. It took less than 24 hours from that phone call for Trevor to be able to breathe on his own again.
The transplant took place on the 13th of November and he was discharged just in time to spend Thanksgiving surrounded by his family. The child will be able to go back to school in March.
