The Chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, Lamar Smith, author of SOPA, is now attacking global warming, claiming that it is nothing more than scientists being politically manipulated to serve towards a liberal goal.
Lamar Smith has gained infamy in 2011 when he attempted to censor the entire internet according to regulations from US law enforcement by proposing the Stop Online Piracy Act, one of the most hated bills in the entire history of our nation. It is not surprising that the bill didn’t go through, considering that it would have quelled freedom of speech across the internet in one fell swoop.
But after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has once again released numbers concerning the rise in temperatures across the globe due to global warming, Lamar has set his sights on the group of scientists who conduct the trials necessary for collecting such data.
He claims that all of this is just a political ruse because the results were rushed in order to further influence political leaders who will be present at the global conference regarding global warming which will be held in Paris starting this Monday, with over 120 participating nations.
This is based on the belief that global warming is actually on a sort of break, with temperatures remaining the same over the last twenty years, which according to the scientists worldwide, not just those from the US is completely false.
It is a bit unnerving to see how the chairman of the committee of science is so keen to follow his conservative political agenda while disregarding the amount of natural disasters that have occurred in the past few years across the nation. True, there might not be a sudden temperature rise, making everything hot all of a sudden, because this is not how greenhouse gases work.
The process is similar to boiling something in a pot, the temperatures slowly but surely rise across several years and by doing so, they shift the heat wave currents found in our atmosphere, thus leading to floods, droughts, hurricanes and monsoons. Not only that, by raising the temperatures just slightly above their normal levels, massive outbreaks of malaria and other diseases specific to warm climates become increasingly probable.
It might look a bit unfortunate how science may be influenced by political parties, be they liberal or republican, considering that global warming would affect us all, regardless of our political beliefs. One of the likely reasons why global warming would come under fire is that the Paris conference might urge nations to try to drop the greenhouse gas emissions immediately to some extent, making carbon fueled power plants and factories close their doors in order to compensate in some way and at least try to slow the global warming process until other solutions may be found.
Because Lamar Smith, author of SOPA, is now attacking global warming, he might now gather even more infamy and to some extent even low amounts of public ridicule.
