You should start having a low-calorie diet because it can make you healthier. At least, this is what happened to monkeys. A new research shows that cutting calories can actually help you have a healthier life and it can ensure a longer life.
Despite the fact that low-calorie diets helped monkeys have a longer and healthier life, it is not sure what effect has on people. This research was made by two competing teams that already made separate experiments on this topic.
Since their discoveries were different they joined forces and made a new research. These teams were from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the other from National Institute on Aging (NIA). The first team found, in 2009, that a low-calorie diet improves life by reducing the risks of insulin resistance. The other team discovered no improvement in survival. They just found minor improved health.
There were a lot of differences between these two researches. This is why the results were different too. Also, there is a difference between how females and males respond to low-calorie diets. Of course, monkeys are different from people and that is why the finding might not apply to us too.
It is also important to select what meals you eat not only the calories. When you get your calories from junk food, no matter how little you eat, it is not going to improve your life. The best diet includes healthy meals with fewer calories. Salads, white meat, and fruits are the best products.
This is why the results differed so much from these two researches. In order to have similar results, the researchers should have picked monkeys that were the same sex and age. These monkeys should have had diets that include the same types of products.
Despite the fact that they had different results the researchers still proved that a low-calorie diet is better for health. Although they proved that it can improve the life and health of monkeys, the researchers mentioned that this might not have the same effects on people. In order to find out how a low-calorie diet affects us, researchers need to conduct a study with people.
What is your opinion about these findings? Do you think that they might apply to people too?
