There are several virtual reality gadgets available on the market at the moment. Some of the most popular ones include Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus. The latest addition to the virtual reality technology devices comes from Microsoft and is called HoloLens.

When asked if the new HoloLens device will compete with the Oculus Rift or Project Morpheus, Microsoft replied that, although it finds the two virtual reality devices as being very exciting, the HoloLens is trying to come up with something different. So Microsoft does not consider its new product as being in competition with other virtual reality devices.

A Microsoft representative explained that the new HoloLens will stand out from other virtual and augmented reality devices. He added that the new HoloLens from Microsoft wants to deliver a holographic experience that is a combination of the digital and real world.

HoloLens integrates holograms into the real world and transforms the way a users creates, explores and connects to the digital world.

Microsoft is hoping that the holographic experiences with HoloLens that will run on the new Windows 10 will keep innovating the virtual and augmented reality technologies.

Alex Kipman, one of engineers who designed the HoloLens, said during the Windows 10 event that Microsoft’s intention with their new product was not to compete with other virtual reality devices like Oculus.

Kipman mentioned Oculus, Glass and Magic Leap, inviting these companies to join Microsoft and create holograms together.

HoloLens is an augmented reality headset that lets the user mix the real world with the virtual one. The user has to put the headset on and the glass screen is activated, projecting a digital overlay on top of the existing physical world.

Apart from displaying holograms, the user can also use the HoloLens to look into the surrounding world, something which Oculus cannot do. If the user moves around an object, it remains in the same place just like it would in the real world.

The HoloLens uses an advanced technology to scan the physical space and map it. This scanning technology resembles the one used with Kinect.

Microsoft has not announced an official price for the HoloLens yet, but said that it wants to make it affordable for many people.
