As movie streaming giant Netflix expands to South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, its grasp on the Asian market is stronger than ever.
Netflix has a very bold goal ahead, as it intends to launch its services in as many as 200 more countries all around the word by the end of 2016. As for its Asian expansion, it began with Japan, where it is already available, and these next four countries are set to be added to the Netflix list by the beginning of 2016.
The next big addition on the Asian market is going to be China, but Netflix is still working on the fine tuning of that deal, since the Chinese have very strict rules regarding the content they allow for TV. There is no official news at the moment regarding Netflix’s launch in China.
Another major sector where Netflix intends to extend its market is Europe. The movie streaming service aims to launch in Spain, Portugal and Italy as soon as next month.
At the moment, Netflix is available in 50 countries, including New Zealand and Australia and it hopes to reach world domination by the end of next year.
This is quite a good year for Netflix, as it has three of the top-rated TV series bringing in a massive amount of subscribers. “House of Cards” was its first major success, and the show has gained an immense fan base since it aired back in 2013. It has exceeded the expectations of viewers with a very strong story line and Kevin Spacey’s brilliant portrayal of the delightfully wicked Francis Underwood.
Furthermore, the show has managed to keep the fans watching with a very strong second season and an amazing third one. Then, Netflix extended its fan base with “Orange Is the New Black”, which was second major triumph for the network in the TV series department.
Netflix’s latest success is “Narcos”, that has greatly surprised viewers with a very complex story line that centers on Pablo Escobar. In fact, the show was so good that it has actually made it very difficult for the upcoming feature films about Escobar, as it has already provided audiences with a very compelling rendition of the story.
With these three TV series, Netflix has earned a very strong authority in the TV show sector and it has become HBO’s greatest contender, which is an immense achievement.
It remains to be seen how the streaming service will do on this multitude of markets it has entered, but it truly has great potential to become one of the world’s top services in the near future.
