A new study has showed that diet, exercise, willpower or determination are not enough to shed extra pounds and retain a good body shape, but a lot more is required to truly make a change in your body weight.
The study, which was conducted by an expert group of obesity treatment, found that the body shape of an individual is predetermined at birth. Hence, the extra effort for losing extra weight usually results in a shocking 80 to 95 percent return to being overweight or obese.
The health programs that promise obese people to help them in losing weight actually just take them into a kind of remission, which is hard to maintain.
Hence, the study experts strongly recommended the weight loss treatment providers to take into serious consideration an individual’s unique body mechanisms as well as the other uncontrollable biological and genetic factors that make them naturally obese.
“Hence, the current advice to eat less and exercise more may be no more effective for most individuals with obesity than a recommendation to avoid sharp objects for someone bleeding profusely,” the researchers wrote in the paper.
The researchers believe the new revelations would help the obesity treatment experts to explore better ways of treating overweight and obesity conditions.
As proper diet and regular exercise are the two main scientifically proven methods to help people with obesity or overweight problem, these health efforts must be done in accordance with the treatments that mainly focus on the underlying cause of obesity. These causes can be psychological or biological.
The findings of the new study were published in the journal The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.
