Windows 10 is only five days away with the new update being applied on July 29. The new operating system will roll out in phases. Firstly it will be made available to Windows Insiders and afterwards to users who have reserved the update online. On August 1 the update will also reach Enterprise users.
Microsoft says that Windows 10 has been extensively reviewed and adjusted before its release date. For this they used the input of five million Windows Insiders who tested different pre-release builds. That is a lot different than what Redmond did before launching Windows 8.
According to Al Gillen who isp rogram vice president for system software and servers at IDC Windows 8 was created in near secrecy without any broad public testing program and few disclosure, whereas Windows 10 is developed in different processes. According to him who has been using Windows 10 for some time, the new version of Windows is noticeably improved compared to past versions.
Gillen also said that Windows 10 contains all the best from Windows 7 and Windows 8 into a version which functions with both mouse and keyboard interface and in a touch-enabled environment.
“In Microsoft’s case, it is hard to get developers excited about its relatively small installed base of phones and tablets, but by unifying the customer Relevant Products/Services base across PCs, tablets and phones, the opportunity potentially gets a whole lot larger,” he added.
According to Redmond this will be the last version of the operating system. Instead of releasing upgrades as numbered generations Microsoft wants to roll out continuous updates. Microsoft promotes some of the Windows 10 features before its release such as the introduction of a new browser, Microsoft Edge which will replace Internet Explorer, the return of the Start Menu which was no longer available in Windows 8. The new Windows will also feature Cortana, a digital personal assistant which can be controlled with the user’s voice.
Another new feature is a cross-device Windows store. In addition EULA said that the software will periodically check for app and system updates and also download and install them for the user. The automatic updates will be received without additional notice.
