The horrific attacks that took place on Friday night in Paris still shake the world today. Now, the Belgian Minister of Home Affairs claims that the Paris terrorist attacks may have been planned through PS4, after one of these consoles was found at the home address of one of the suspected ISIS members and attackers.
The attacks took place in seven different locations throughout Paris and it is thought that they were conducted by at least seven ISIL terrorists. Unfortunately, 132 people were killed in the attacks, ranging from suicide bombing to hostage situations, and over 350 injured.
The problem which the Belgian Minister approached is not a new one, considering that communication through the PSN party system is nearly impossible to read. Another option is the communication through levels built in a game editor that some games provide, spelling out words through the position of pipes or boxes and after the level is played, deleting it immediately.
The lack of control from Sony network services is well known, with numerous incidents of people streaming entire movies or pornography through the use of the PS Camera. These incidents were eventually dealt with, but it showed the lack of supervision that Sony used when dealing with their video streaming service.
Another reason why using gaming as a sort of criminal communication system was raised is the plethora of war-related games on the market, where military strategies formed between party members are as common as grass. This further demonstrates the possibility of the terrorists using the console as an easy way of discussing tactics and strategies through the gaming system. This comes at a relatively bad time for the gaming industry as it faces more and more scrutiny due to its growth and increased popularity.
Even though people will probably say that finding just one console in the house of one of the ISIL agents doesn’t prove anything with an 100% degree of certainty, it will make authorities to view the potentiality of using such a device to communicate without the fear of being spied on more plausible.
The fact that authorities are hanging on to this idea also shows that they most likely have no definitive answer when it comes to how the agents communicated without being spotted by different intelligence agencies. If just by finding one item in one house is nothing more than speculation, further inquiries must be made in order for a clear answer to be given to the media.
The possibility that the Paris terrorist attacks may have been planned through PS4 will still remain a valid option until it will either be debunked or confirmed as authorities still search of a possible way to better track the criminal movement that happens in secrecy in our midst.
