Police officers are investigating the shooting of two Hartford residents, that took place in the early hours of this morning. The two shootings happened nearly one of the other and the authorities are trying to figure out whether or not, the two infractions are related.
The first shooting took place at around 6:30 AM, outside the First Church of Nazarene and the victim was the beloved pastor of the church, Reverend Augustus Sealy, aged 54. Multiple 911 calls alerted the police about a male victim that was shot multiple times.
When the police arrived, the reverend was found at the scene and it was revealed that he had been shot two times in the right leg and once in the left shoulder. However, multiple cartridges were found near the scene.
When the drive-by shooting took place, the pastor was decorating the lawn of the church with flags for the Memorial Day service that was planned for later afternoon.
For the time being, the reverend is being treated at the Hartford Hospital and his wife announced that he came out alright from his surgery and that he is expected to make a full recovery.
The second shooting took place minutes apart from the first one and the victim was 27-year old Robert Jones. Jones was not as lucky as reverend Sealy and sustained severe injuries after being shot multiple times. Six bullets have hit Robert Jones, who was found lying on a street near Garden Street, and was rushed at St. Francis Hospital. Doctors report now that he is in a serious, but stable condition.
The shooting of the reverend has sparked outrage among the people that attend the First Church of Nazarene and a vigil is set to take place Tuesday evening, at 6 p.m. The pastor is highly involved and beloved in the community and people believe that this was just a random attack.
No arrests have been made for the time being and the police still doesn`t know if the crimes are related. The Major Crimes Division has began investigating the two drive-by shootings and latest information revealed by witnesses to the shootings, have indicated that a Nissan Altima was the car that the attacker was driving.
The number of murders in Hartford has increased in the past few weeks and the authorities are planning on offering more protection to the residents by increasing the number of officers that patrol the street.
