A sedentary lifestyle can be the worst thing you can do. We all know that doing exercise regularly is great for your health. What we did not know is that it help you look and feel younger. A new study focused on sedentary lifestyle and how it affects older women.
The researchers observed two groups of women: one group who exercised every day and the other group who had a sedentary life. This research was conducted with the help of 1,500. All of them had ages between 65 and 95.
The findings showed that those who exercised less and spent more time sitting had older cells. It is known that as we age our cells age too and that is why we need to be extra careful with what we eat and how long we exercise.
The fact that we don’t exercise regularly can make our cells age faster than normally. The researchers mentioned that we need to avoid sitting for more than 10 hours a day. As we age the tiny caps at the end of the DNA shorten. They are named telomeres.
One indicator of biological age is the length of telomeres. The shorter the older we are and look. Shorter telomeres are also linked to diabetes and cancer. These telomeres are also influenced by how much exercise we do every day. This is why the researchers focused on this topic.
In order to track the women exercise time, the researchers made them wore a device day and night for a week. They also completed a questioner mentioning how much time they spent exercising every day. The findings showed that women who had a sedentary lifestyle had “older” cells and shorter telomeres.
Researchers mentioned that it is important to exercise since we are young in order to prevent health problems. They also said that we need to continue exercising even when we are over 80 years old so that our cells don’t age more than we do.
This research showed that women who exercised less had cells with 8 years older than they should have. This should be a wake-up call and make us lead a healthy life.
