A small plane crashed in the vicinity of Spring Branch, 30 miles north of San Antonio, Texas, leaving four victims. The accident occurred on Saturday, the 16th of May 2015.
The pilot, his wife and their two children all died on impact, before the plane became ablaze. They were identified as 38-year-old Michael Scott Galloway, 32-year-old Heather Louise Galloway, 10-year-old Clayton Galloway and 8-year-old Michael Galloway. The accident was produced shortly after the plane took off.
The plane, a single-engine Piper PA-24, crashed in a bushy area, not far from the parking lot of an animal pet and feed store (Strutty’s), east of U.S. Highway 281 North, according to spokesman Sheriff’s Capt. Tommy Ward, with the Comal County Sheriff’s Department. There haven’t been any injuries or damage on the area, even if the aircraft nose-dived into the ground. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the aircraft had taken off from Kestrel Air Park in Spring Branch, which has a 3000- foot runway, and the accident was produced not long afterwards. The estimated time of the crash was 12.30 p.m.
According to Capt. Tommy Ward, people in the area started calling 911 as soon as they saw the flames, in order to report de crash. Unfortunately, the firefighters were not able to do anything for the victims as the plane was on fire and they were already dead. The good thing was that the plane didn’t crash in the populated neighborhood, which was only two miles away from the place of the accident.
The Federal Aviation Administration are going to investigate the accident in collaboration with the National Transportation Safety Board. There are no assumptions yet as to what might have been the causes of the crash. They were on their way to Spring Branch on Saturday evening, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford.
The couple had been married for a decade and were approaching their tenth wedding anniversary, according to friends and family. Heather Galloway worked for the Comal County Independent School District as a bus driver and the couple’s two children were going to a school in the same district. They were loved and appreciated in the community. Their friends and family expressed their deep sorrow on hearing the news.
