Car maker Ford Motor surprised everyone, especially its rivals, with the launch of its all-new GT supercar on Monday at the 2015 edition of Detroit Auto Show.
According to the company, the stunning and stylish car will be hitting the showrooms sometime in 2016.
The extraordinary car is installed with all the typical supercar features like rear-wheel-drive configuration, a mid-mounted engine and a sleek aerodynamic coupe body.
The most important thing that makes this new generation vehicle extraordinary is that instead of the regular V-8 engine found in most of the Ford cars, including the previous GT, it comes packed with an EcoBoost V-6 engine.
According to the auto experts, the EcoBoost V-6 engine has twin-turbochargers that will assist in liberating more than 600 horsepower.
The company has made extensive use of lightweight materials, including carbon fiber and aluminum, for the chassis in order to give the car an attractive power-to-weight ratio.
The car’s engine is derived from the 3.5-liter mill that is fitted to the Daytona Prototype of the company.
Some of the new design aspects include: valvetrain features and updated direct-injection that are aimed at encouraging the performance as well as efficiency of the new car.
In the cabin, the designers have reduced the frontal area and kept the car sleek. The cabin can be accessed through an upward swinging pair of doors. The fixed seats come with adjustable pedals and steering column.
The ‘digital’ instrument cluster is configurable for multiple kinds of driving environments as well as driving modes. Its F1-style steering wheel helps in integrating all the necessary driver controls that offers creation of a stalk-less steering column, allowing uncluttered access to the transmission paddle-shift controls.
The company sources said that there is still a lot of development work pending with the new car model.
