"Skype is now open for Business "

Skype’s latest update features two new options for scheduling calls directly from Outlook and for opening documents directly from the chat window.

Ever wonder how you can get more out of your working day? Wonder not, because Skype is now open for business. The popular messaging platform has received a new update, which feature two new options which are sure to make your work day more productive.

Skype is now open for business, featuring new tool which will make your life a whole lot easier. A while ago, Skype released a cool feature called “Schedule a call”. This option lets you call a friend or a customer at fixed hour, and on a fixed date.

But with the new update, you can do the same thing using your Android-ready device. Moreover, thanks to the new update, you can now schedule the call directly from Outlook, simply by using the Skype application. Moreover, the developers made sure to include other goodies in the latest update such as customizable calendars which you can fill with the most important events.

The second good news concerning skype is that you will now be able to open Office documents directly from the chat window. Let’s say someone sends you a .docx type document containing your schedule for the next two next. Wouldn’t it be neat if Skype had an option so that you could open the doc directly from the chat window and not having to save it and then open it?

You guessed it! Thanks to the latest update, you will be able to open pdf documents, word documents, excel document, ppts and many other formats just by clicking on its icon, directly in the chat window.

If you don’t have Office installed on your computer or device, than the icon has an embedded link, which tells you what you can use or download in order to open the document you’ve just received.

Now, in order to access this new update, you’ve got to follow a few steps. First of all, do make sure that you have Skype installed. Second, head an over to Google Play and search for ‘Skype’. Click on the first link which appears on your screen. This will bring up the app’s download details.

Look under the description: there should be two buttons, one of the entitled “Update” and the other is “Uninstall”. If your device is set to automatically seek and install the latest update, than you should be able to access Skype’s latest content. If not, then hit the “Update” button, wait a couple of secs, hit the “Open” button and enjoy the cool new features designed to accommodate all your business needs.

Microsoft enables video calling feature between Skype and Lync users

Now, the users of Skype and Lync can enjoy making video calls to each other. Tech giant Microsoft on Friday announced that the Skype users will now be able to make video calls to their Lync Contacts as it has enabled the Skype and Lync video integration.

“We’re excited to announce that Skype users can now video call their Skype contacts on Lync, and vice versa!” said Microsoft in a blogs post while announcing the Skype- Lync video integration.

Before the introduction of the capability, the users of both Skype and Lync were only able to exchange messages and make voice calls over-IP connection. But with the integration of both the forums, the users can now make video calls as well.

According to the reports, the users also don’t require installation of any update for using video calling feature.

Elaborating upon the benefits, Elaine Ansell said, “This means Skype and Lync customers can connect with more colleagues, partners, and customers, streamlining communications across both work and life.”

Meanwhile, the experts believe the move may be part of Microsoft’s plan to replace Lync with Skype. In November, the tech giant has expressed its intentions to shut down the Lync brand next year, while replacing it with Skype for Business.

Microsoft had also clarified that the closure of Lync would not affect its users as Skype for Business will carry almost same feature as Skype.

An official blogs post dated December 5 said, “Skype for Windows desktop is getting the Skype-Lync video federation first. Android and iOS Skype releases will get the new capability “in the coming months.”

Meanwhile, an updated version of Skype, i.e. Skype 7.0, was released today. The new version offers more functionality for the touchscreen PC users.
