This has been a good week for paleontologist Caleb Brown. He has issued a brilliant study about a brand new dinosaur species that he has discovered, that ended with the most amazing twist. In the acknowledgement section, he included a marriage proposal for his girlfriend. This has to be the most romantically geeky proposal ever.
Brown’s paper was based on a dinosaur skull he had found that he proved to be linked to a whole new dinosaur species, that he has nicknamed “Hellboy”. But despite the scientist’s wishes, what stole this discovery’s thunder was the incredibly sweet marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Lorna O’Brien.
The very last sentences of the study was “C.M.B. would specifically like to highlight the ongoing and unwavering support of Lorna O’Brien. Lorna, will you marry me?”. And it has stolen everybody’s hearts.
We should probably let you know that she did say yes, making the geekiest proposal ever also a successful one. Brown showed his girlfriend the paper before it actually got published in the scientific journals, so that she not be put in an uncomfortable situation in the event that marriage was not in he plans.
It is geekily delightful that Brown was prepared for both options and that he would have spared his girlfriend from public exposure if she would have said yes. But fortunately, she said yes and in the sweetest way.
Brown told the press that she was absolutely overwhelmed by the proposal and most likely did not immediately comprehend the whole extent of the gesture. Her reaction was absolutely adorable.
The two love birds met while conducting their PhDs and have been together ever since. Now it seems that they will be remembered not only for their scientific contributions, but for being the sweetest couple in the research community.
Furthermore, the immense publicity that the proposal has received ever since the release of the paper is rubbing off on Hellboy as well. Brown might have wanted it to be the other way around, but it truly does look like people appreciate romance more than dinosaurs.
And it is a positive thing that Hellboy will forever be remembered as the multi-horned dinosaur that brought Dr. Brown and Dr. O’Brien together. This is one that is bound to make its way into the history books.
