A Japanese scientist from Cocoa Motors has devised the WalkCar, a laptop-sized and shaped transportation device, that is a miniature version of the segway and that is incredibly accessible and easy to use.
The WalkCar looks like an actual laptop on wheels and this is why it could be carried in a bag and used when needed. The brand new Japanese transportation device will definitely come in handy to those who have to walk a lot every day and especially to people who need to walk a lot early in the morning when time is precious.
The device is perfect for commuters who need to travel by train or by bus to work or school and cannot take a bike with them on these. The WalkCar could make the journey from home to the train station much shorter and help them get to work on time and sleep an extra few minutes in the morning.
As you can see in the picture above, the WalkCar is a small rectangle shaped device with four small wheels. It is extremely light as well, as it only weighs around 4.5-6.5 pounds (2-3 kg), so it is perfect for a bag or a laptop backpack. But despite its size, the Walk Car is quite fast, as it can reach a speed of 6.2 miles an hour (10 km/h). And it is also very resistant, because it can carry up to 265 pounds (120 kg) on it.
The WalkCar can be charged like a regular laptop, tablet or phone, as it has a Lithium-ion battery and it has quite a long life for the initial version of the product. Three hours of charging time provide people with 12 kilometers of running distance, which is absolutely perfect for those annoying long distances that we would all like to fast-forward through on a daily basis.
The new transportation device is extremely easy to use. In order to start and stop it, the person riding it just has to get on and off it, which makes it quite safe, because at any sign of danger it is very easy to stop it. In order to steer the WalkCar, the person only needs to lean back, forth or to the side, exactly like on a skateboard. It will clearly require some time to learn how to use it properly, but considering the immense benefits it offers, it is definitely worth the while.
Orders for the WalkCar will be available as of this autumn on Kickstarter, the famous crowd funding website, and shipping will most likely begin at the beginning of next year. The transportation device will go for about $800 (100,000 Japanese Yen), but considering the mobility it provides, it is clearly worth the money.
It remains to be seen how successful the laptop shaped transportation device will be exactly, but its potential is absolutely enormous. Cocoa Motors’ WalkCar is clearly much more accessible than both its main contenders, the Segway and the Winglet, produced by Toyota and this is most likely going to constitute a significant advantage.
