While you love eating Transfats, it loves eating your memory.
It is no secret that Transfat are the worst kinds of fat in terms of heart disease weight control.
Spanish researchers have linked trans fats and saturated fats to depression, in the past. Moreover, after the US Food and Drug Administration has announced that trans fats “are not considered as safe for use in food”. According to the experts in Australia, it should be banned.
Now, a new study which is presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2014 has found a link between trans fat and memory impairment. The regular use of trans fats in food can even lead to long life memory loss.
Researchers studied the eating habits of 1000 healthy men above the age of 20, and postmenopausal women to determine the harmful effects of trans fat on their memory.
All the participants were asked to complete a dietary questionnaire and their memories were tested using word cards. Such participants were asked to state whether the word new or a duplicate word that had already been presented in front of them.
Researchers found men fewer than 45 had a reduced ability to be able to remember or recall words, with those who consumed the highest amounts of trans fats remembering an estimated 11 or fewer words. Now, further studies are to be conducted for women to see the affect of trans fats on them.
