The space administration has recently disclosed that U.S. wants NASA to send humans on Mars by 2018. The Obama government is asking NASA scientists to allot $55 million from their $19.3 billion budget for the construction of a proper Mars habitat for humans.
One week after they found out that the U.S. government is offering them a much bigger 2016 budget than initially anticipated, NASA was ‘hit’ with more great news. U.S. officials are asking the space administration to speed up their missions on Mars.
To be more specifically, the Obama administration wants NASA to start building a habitat that can support human life on Mars. And this by 2018. For this purpose, NASA is to assign $55 million from their 2016 budget for tis research, U.S. officials have further explained.
The U.S. government appears to be more determined than ever to take over the Red Planet. They have even requested the space administration to present a project for their “habitation module” within the following 180 days. The project is supposed to illustrate the present situation of the program and the future objectives that NASA has set for its Mars missions.
The news that the U.S. government is supporting NASA’s missions on Mars got everyone at the space administration thrilled. Scientists have been planning to start tests of cislunar habitats, that is, habitats placed between the Earth and the moon by the year 2020, but this deadline was not really fixed. Now that the Obama administration is interested in the Martian missions, NASA will have to do everything in its power to meet the set deadline.
Sources have stated that NASA had already contacted companies for the design of the habitat, but nothing was official until now. The space administration has been in talks with Bigelow Aerospace, Orbital ATK and Boeing.
In spite all this, no actual word has been released on the possible design of the Martian habitat. Sam Scimemi, the director of the International Space Station at NASA, thinks people will immediately realize the configuration of the new habitat once the prototypes will be ready.
