Amazon decided to put an end to an offer that sounded too good to be true. The retail giant will no longer support unlimited cloud storage plan. Instead of this competing service, the company will put at the disposal of its clients a 1 TB plan. Nonetheless, Prime members will still be gifted with unlimited space, yet for photos only.
The Former Unlimited Cloud Storage Plan Was Unlocked for $59.99 per Year
From now on, Amazon Drive users will no longer have the opportunity to sign up for an unlimited cloud storage plan. The most they can opt for is the 1 TB option for $59.99 per year. If this is not enough, they can extend their plan with an additional charge of $59.99 for one extra TB to up to 30 TB. This might look like a narrow plan for old customers who caught the special offer of $59.99 per year for unlimited everything.
The unlimited storage strategy went public as early as 2015. Even though it delivered much more valued than its price tag, this service had the goal to act as an access key to a highly competitive market. Back then, there were numerous new apparitions of cloud storage services tempting consumers with different incentives.
Those Who Don’t Want to Renew Their Plans Will Have to Find Other Cyber Storage
Nonetheless, the free storage for photos is still a noteworthy benefit of becoming an Amazon Prime client. On the other hand, those who have already covered the fees for the slashed plan will continue to enjoy their unlimited storage until the expiration date. Afterward, those who opted for the auto-renew option will receive the 1 TB plan for $59.99 a year.
However, those users who don’t want to extend their membership any longer will have to prepare another cyberspace for their assets. Once the deadline kicks in, they will no longer be able to upload new files. Instead, they can only view, delete, and download their content. At this point, users have 180 days at their disposal to delete or move their files someplace else. At the end of this period, the company will automatically delete content.
