The findings suggest that cheese has the fabric of an excellent weight loss agent.
The Number of Participants in the Study Was of 1,500
A new Irish study bears some great news for cheese lovers. Researchers found that a diet in high-fat dairy products leads to faster weight loss. These products are connected to a lower than usual body mass index and a decreased level of cholesterol. Cheese is rich in protein which is an indispensable element when it comes to the goals of building muscle and losing unwanted pounds. However, most people kept avoiding it because of its high percentage of fat.
On the other hand, a team of scientists from the University College Dublin found that this popular belief is untrue. Quite on the contrary, researchers showed that eating cheese doesn’t lead to higher LDL cholesterol or increased body fat.
The study was conducted on 1,500 participants with ages between 18 and 90. They were asked to consume different dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, butter, cream, and, milk. Afterward, scientists measured the impact of such products on individual health and body fat percentage.
Contrary to popular belief, the results were quite unexpected. It seems that the higher the dairy intake was, the lower the health damages were. Thus, participants in the study ended up with a lower percentage of fat, a decreased body mass index, narrower waist, and even decreased blood pressure.
Low-Fat Dairy Products Put the Weight Loss in Jeopardy
However, the study intended to find out more about low-fat dairy products as well. Even though they had a lower intake of calories, scientists discovered that low-fat yogurt and milk led to a more intense craving for carbohydrates. Instead of a lighter body weight, participants didn’t succeed in their weight loss plans. Moreover, they ended up with higher LDL also known as bad cholesterol.
This is why scientists encourage people to look deeper than the number of calories. Instead, they should also focus on the relationship between one type of food with another. Thus, the study indicates that there is no harm in consuming Feta, Parmesan, and Fresh Ricotta. As long as the portions are small, the consumers will enjoy many health benefits.
