A 63-year-old California woman was arrested twice in a day for trying to sneak on planes. The woman, identified as Marilyn Hartman, was nicknamed “serial stowaway”. She has a whole history of trying to board airplanes without a ticket.
Only two days ago Hartman was released from jail for trying to get on a plane without a ticket and now she got arrested twice at two airports in Chicago. On Friday the woman was arrested at Midway International Airport and on Saturday she was taken into custody at O’Hare International airport. This happened barely 48 hours after she was released from prison where she spent two months. The reason why she was behind bars? That’s right! The same reason: for trying to sneak on airplanes. She was arrested five times because she tried to bypass airport security in April and May this year at the same airports.
Hartman was charged with one count of misdemeanor reckless conduct because of her behavior at Midway and after she was arrested at O’Hare she was charged with violation of bail bond and criminal trespassing to state. In fact the woman had a plane ticket at Midway airport, but she was arrested because she caused some disturbance. She will stand trial this week in Chicago
On May 3 the woman was arrested at Midway airport and charged with loitering. Two weeks before that she was charged with the same offence at O’Hare Airport. Now the woman is known for a total of 13 attempts to board planes without a ticket. It seems that she was successful only three times: when she flew from Minnesota to Jackson, to Florida and also a journey from San Jose to Los Angeles.
The woman has often claimed that she is homeless and says that she feels more comfortable inside airports than on the streets. The court deemed her mentally unstable. The woman motivated her abnormal behavior by saying that she suffers from an unrecognized medical condition called “whistleblower trauma syndrome” and from severe depression. She even said that the FBI forced her to leave her home and live on the streets. However the prosecution said that she was sane at the time when she committed the offenses.
