USD 500 reward for giving up sodas for 365 days! That sounds interesting but an 11-year-old boy in Montana has been rewarded with the whopping amount for winning a so-called no-pop challenge issued by his parents.
11-year-old Jonathan Sarisky and his brother Andrew were offered with a choice to swear off sugary drinks for a complete 365 days and collect USD 500 in one year’s duration or just continue drinking and take USD 100 now.
Sarisky’s parents — father Jason Sarisky, mother Renee Shifley and stepfather Rick Shifley — offered the young boys with the lucrative deal around Christmas last year, and now it’s been a year since Jonathan hasn’t touched any soda or sugary drinks.
While Andrew had opted for the quick cash, Jonathan took up the challenge and didn’t consume any sodas or sugary stuffs other than milk and water for the last 12 months.
“I didn’t brush my teeth until I couldn’t taste it anymore,” Sarisky reportedly told a daily while speaking of the last soda that he drank last year.
Even if his challenge period is over now, Jonathan said that he remains committal of not falling back into the old habits.
“I might have just one pop, but I’m not going to overdo it. It’s ok for a splurge now and then,” the young boy said.
Hailing her son’s efforts, mother Sarisky said that Jonathan’s patience and restrain from taking those drinks were highly commendable. He grew up a lot during the period of challenge, she said.
The doctors and health experts strictly recommend lesser intake of sodas as they blame the rising intake of sugar for many medical problems, ranging from heart disease to obesity and diabetes and hypertension.
