There were not so many people who have the chance of travelling in the space. During these 55 years since NASA started its journeys, less than 500 people were astronauts. Mae Jemison is one of them. Moreover, she was the first African-American women in space with the Endeavour space shuttle.
Now she is trying to find new ways for humanity to travel more than in our solar system. In you did not know, NASA wants to make possible for humans to travel beyond our galaxy, in the next century. She was asked if she believes that life could exist on other planets. “The reality is that we know that this universe, that our galaxy, has billions of stars. We know that stars have planets she said “so the likelihood that there is life somewhere else to me is just absolutely there.” The astronaut talked about Proxima b, a planet close to us, that is similar to Earth. Researchers said the temperature is warm and there could be water there. Mae Jemison thinks that people could be able to see that planet. However, this thing will not happen soon. Mars seems to a better option because is closer and NASA have already planned to send astronauts there.
What is important to know is that the technology we use now was first used in space. Things such as GPS systems or MRI were first used by astronauts. We see them as normal things, but the truth is they helped NASA to discover more about the space. Mae Jemison had the honor to have a high school named after her, near the place she was born.
People are hoping life on other planets is possible. The Earth is not safe and there will be times when we will have to make hard decisions. Global warming is a major threat, the sea level is rising while the ice is melting. People who lived in those regions for hundreds of years have to move now because the place is not safe. In the future, there will be major problems. We have to think of other solution and Mars could be the planet where we can live.
We will see what other discoveries NASA will do and if people will be able to live on another planet.
