It seems that we don’t live in a country where you can just open a lemonade stand when you please anymore, without having a permit for it.
We’ve all seen lemonade stands in films and cartoons along the years, as a perfect way to teach children entrepreneurship and the value of money.
Everybody had something to win from the experience, since children could earn their own money, parents could use the process to teach them about responsibility and the value of a hard day’s work.
Even the passers-by who would invest some change in the lemonade business could leave with a cool glass of tasty lemonade on a sunny day.
Well, it seems that a lemonade stand is capable of teaching children even more extensive life lessons like what happens when you do something illegal.
Andria and Zoey Green from Overton, Texas opened a cute little lemonade stand so that they could raise money to take their father out for a Father’s Day treat.
They were selling artificially made lemonade and some corn treats, that proved their talent for business. Their lemonade went for 50 cents a glass and the corn treats went for $1, but the purchase of both products went for $1.
That proved to be an offer that their neighbors could not refuse, since the girls has made $25 before their entrepreneurship lesson went sour. The police came and their mother, who was chaperoning the sales, was called to the side and asked to remove the lemonade stand immediately.
It seems that is illegal to sell certain foods without a permit, foods that include lemonade, unfortunately for the two little girls. Whether or not there are health concerns that constitute the reason for this law remains unclear, as not even the police man who made girls take down their stand could explain the exact causes of the act.
The girls were actually fined $150 for their act, but the fine was eventually lifted, due to their minor offense. At least this experience had some kind of a happy end for the Green sisters, but they definitely learned a important lesson in responsibility.
We live in a country that has strict laws that cover pretty much any situation that we might go through, apparently even lemonade stands. It is important to remain aware of the current state of the law, as it might interfere with your day to day activities.
Now the Green sisters will know what to do in order to open a legal lemonade stand, which will be a crucial lesson for their future.
