An American Idol contestant received an unexpected kiss from Katy Perry, who is one of the judges.
On Sunday night, ABC’s reboot of the once-famous singing contest American Idol premiered. One of the contestants, 20-year old Ben Isaac Glaze, who admitted that he had never been kissed, received a surprise one from judge Katy Perry.
The gesture immediately sparked a lot of controversy online, especially in the light of recent movements like #MeToo or Time’s Up. Also, it seems that the contestant himself wasn’t too comfortable with what Perry did. Or at least this is what he declared in a Wednesday interview with the New York Times.
However, a few hours after the article became public, the 20-year old Oklahoma native clarified his opinion and said that he didn’t feel like he was sexually harassed or anything similar.
In the article, he admitted that he was a bit uncomfortable with the entire situation. Glaze also said that he was keeping that kiss for his first ever relationship and that if Perry had asked him first, he would have said “no.”
Soon after many people online criticized not only Katy Perry but the entire competition, the aspiring musician took to Instagram to make a few clarifications.

Ben is a conservative cashier who wanted to have his first kiss while in a serious relationship. However, he admitted that he was not complaining about Katy Perry being his first kiss.
Ben claims that he felt uncomfortable because it was his first and it took him by surprise. He went on to say that some articles did not convey his exact words and opinion about the situation and that this was the reason why he wanted to make everything clear.
Unfortunately, Ben did not move forward after his audition and admitted that he wished to have performed better in front of the judges. He also posted a lengthy thank you message for everyone supporting him during his experience.
