This is not the only reason why Google has put an end to Map Maker.
Map Maker is going to retire next year because Google is going to make some changed for its Google Maps Beta. Google announced that they are going to shut it down . This tool permitted people to bring more data for Google Maps. This won’t happen after March 2017.
Map Maker created some problems in the past and this might be one of the reasons why Google is shutting it down for good. The fact that people could say anything on Map Maker created several problems for Google. For instance, last year Map Maker kind of vandalized Google Maps after it showed an image of an android urinating on the logo of Apple.
This is not the only reason why Google has put an end to this feature. People used to write a lot of obscene edits and spam content. This put Google Maps in a bad light and people didn’t trust it anymore. Maybe if they shut down Map Maker they will regain their popularity.
Map Maker was also trying to make some changes before Google made this decision. They were trying to make some security changes so that people wouldn’t post some many obscene things and spam content. Google went ahead and shut them down for a while, at least.
Google will now have to replace this feature so that people could post things on Google Maps in order to provide information about different places. The new feature is going to be called Local Guides. People will be able to post things about different hotels and places and they will get reward and points. With those points, they will be able to access other features.
Some of the characteristics of Map Maker are going to be found in Local Guides too. Google wants to combine these 2 in 2017. Google mentioned that what people posted over the years is appreciated and they want more people to give information on the Local Guides. Let’s hope that Local Guides has less spam content and more valuable information that can really help others know more about a certain hotel.
What is your opinion about Google decision? Do you think that Local Guides can replace Map Maker?
