Google News has a new face. The company launched a massive update for their news aggregator. The website keeps an eye on a total of 4,500 online sources from which it indexes the hot topics of the day. It provides real time updates on news based on several categories such as science, health, business, technology, and others. However, over the years, this project started to get a little chaotic. This is why the team behind it hopes to fix the issues with a simple redesign.
The Simple Redesign Has Already Rolled Internationally
Google News is the news aggregator of Google Inc. However, this website seems to be neglected in favor of other projects that received numerous updates and attention. Nonetheless, the time has come for this website to get some revamping work for itself. Therefore, its daily users are going to experience a simple redesign starting today.
The professional in charge of this latest update was Anand Paka, the product manager for Google News. Paka stated that the whole purpose of such a massive alteration was to streamline the user interface. He hopes that readers would enjoy a more accessible product that got rid of unnecessary features and offers on point results.
As a consequence, the main news stream looks different while other details were eliminated or replaced. For instance, the share buttons are no longer accompanying each entry. Not even Google+ social button remained visible. Instead, users will have a modern share button to rule all platforms.
Google Placed More Emphasis on Video
On the other hand, all features that improved the utility of the aggregator over the years were left as they were. For instance, users still enjoy the real-time coverage, support for videos, and fact checks. One novelty here would be a larger focus on video. However, this alteration was necessary to catch up with recent trends that create more news articles around video content.
However, these changes may not be permanent. Paka’s team remains vigilant and will continue to test their new features. They are free to improve, boost, replace or eliminate the new aspects that need an extra touch to become fully effective.
