The US Secret Service on Sunday said that some unidentified people fired gun shots from a passing vehicle near the residence of Vice President Joe Biden in Delaware.
The authorities said that both vice president and his wife were not at home when the shooting incident took place on Saturday night.
According to the Secret Service officials, the gun shots were fired on a public road at several hundred yards away from Biden’s residence, outside the security cover, at around 8:25 pm EST on Saturday.
Biden and his wife, Jill, were out for the evening in Delaware when the shooting incident took place, the Secret Service said.
The authorities said that as the Vice President’s home is not visible from the main road, it was unclear whether the gun shot was fired randomly or was aimed in the direction of the residence.
The Secret Service officials are trying to recover from a series of security lapses, such as a September incident in which a man carrying knife jumped the fence of White House and tried to intrude the official residence of the American president.
The Vice President and President Barack Obama were briefed about the incident on Saturday night.
