
Avocado is one of the greatest sources of healthy fats.
The avocado has become a staple of modern foods, with many nutritionists hailing the nutritional properties of the fruit. A new type of avocado called “avocado light,” a version of the traditional avocado with 30 percent less fat than the typical avocado.
Diet Avocados have 30% Less Fat
The avocado has long been believed to be a superfood, full of nutrients and monosaturated fats that can help stave off things like heart disease. The new fruit is an attempt to make the fruit even healthier.
The fruit, developed by Eurobanan and sold under it’s Isla Bonita brand, is supposed to taste like a regular avocado and even stay ripe longer than traditional avocados. The Spanish company Eurobanan found the variety of avocado after analyzing 32 varieties of avocado in six different countries. It is grown in Latin America in specific conditions in order to provide all the nutrition as a regular avocado but with 30 per cent less fat.
The diet avocados have a smooth green skin, a light flavor, and ripens fast while oxidizing slow. This means the fruit will ripen in less time than a traditional avocado, and stay ripe longer.
The Isla Bonita branded fruit will be launched in Madrid this month and will be available in supermarkets and specialist stores. The spanish company does not currently plan to bring the avocado to the US.
The low-fat content of the diet avocados has been verified independently and approved by the Spanish Heart Foundation’s Food Health Programme.
With avocados being consumed increasingly all over the world and more people worrying about a balanced diet, the company believes that the new avocado could be a big development in the avocado market.
These new diet avocados could be a way to help some of those trying to lose weight to be able to continue to enjoy avocados.
