A gruesome child molester from Los Angeles, California will be serving a life sentence for kidnapping and raping a 10-year old girl.
Tobias Summers received life imprisonment without parole, after being found guilty by the Los Angeles County Superior Court last month.
At the time, the jurors found him accountable for 32 felonies, such as kidnapping to commit rape, aggravated sexual assault, and forcible lewd acts.
Judge Ronald S. Coen, who sentenced the 34-year old attacker yesterday and rejected a defense motion calling for a new trial, labelled Summers as a predator, and praised the victim for bravely surviving the whole ordeal.
In March 2013, Summers and his accomplice Daniel Martinez initially decided to rob the girl’s house, selecting it randomly from the Northridge neighborhood.
As Martinez was waiting in the getaway vehicle, Summers entered the residence and upon encountering the 10-year old girl he immediately gave up the initial burglary.
He kidnapped the child from her bed at knife point, and afterwards he put a gag into her mouth and immobilized her by tying her up.
He took her to the car, and drove away with her and Martinez, who after a short while decided he didn’t want to be part of the new plans.
Summers remained alone with his victim and for 12 hours he sexually assaulted her, while strangling her with a belt.
The attacks took place in his vehicle, at a storage yard, at a vacant residence and in a drainage tunnel while crossing San Fernando Valley.
Upon discovering that her child was missing, the girl’s mother called 911, and after an extensive search the victim was found barefoot and severely battered, in a Woodland Hills parking lot near Starbucks.
Martinez was eventually arrested and sentenced to 6 years in prison for burglary and his involvement in the attack.
Summers was also apprehended by FBI agents a month after the incident at a rehabilitation center from Mexico. Although he had joined the facility under an alias, he was recognized due to a distinctive Superman tattoo he had on his chest.
Initially, the culprit denied all accusations, claiming he had actually saved the girl from her real assailants, and that he wouldn’t have ever harmed her because she reminded him of his mother.
However, traces of DNA from the victim’s shorts matched Summers’ genetic profile, so his guilt was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt.
“It was not right, and no one should ever have to go through that ever. So I hope he goes away forever”, declared the girl before the judge pronounced the final sentence.
The life imprisonment verdict that Summers has just received might offer some consolation to the child, although the emotional and physical trauma she had sustained is irreparable.
