Ikea has announced that it will launch a new collection of furniture, including lamps and bedsides tables, that will feature built-in chargers for personal devices like smartphones and tablets.

According to the Swedish furniture manufacturer, the new collection of Ikea furniture, called Home Smart, will help people avoid all the cable clutter that usually collects on a table.

Jeanette Skjelmose, manager of wireless and lighting charging at Ikea, explained that the reason for the new collection of smart furniture is that people hate cable clutter. Most of us worry about not finding the charger when we need it and that our smartphone will run out of power.

According to Jeanette Skjelmose, the new collection of inovative furniture will feature integrated wireless charging devices and that will simplify things.

The upcoming Home Smart furniture features a “+” sign that will indicate where the user should put the mobile device for charging purposes.
Skjelmose says that the new furniture should be plugged in, in order to function.

Ikea officials said that those who do not want to replace their Ikea furniture will be able to purchase the special charging pads and integrate it into some of the existing furniture models, including Nornas, Hemnes and Bråviken.
Also, Ikea will sell a special saw that can be used to drill a hole in the furniture and attach the wireless Ikea charger. The charger is sold separately.

The new Home Smart furniture from Ikea uses a wireless charging technology called “Qi”. This technology can also be found in some Android and Windows smartphones, including the latest Samsung Galaxy S6, which will be available for sale starting April.

Ikea said that older versions of Samsung Galaxy S or iPhones do not support this wireless charging method, but it will sell charging covers for iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5S and 6.

Also, the special charging covers will be available for the previous three models of Galaxy S smartphones.
After clothing the phone with the charging cover, the phones will be able to work with any wireless charger, including the one included in the new Ikea furniture.

The special furniture will be sold in the United States, UK and Europe starting in April.
