The service is called PlayStation Music and will be available this coming spring in more than 40 countries. The service was initially designed for PlayStation consoles but it will be available on Xperia smartphones and tablets, as well.
The new music service for PlayStation will offer an impressive list of more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists.
Sony talked about the new music service for PlayStation, saying that it will be very integrated within the PlayStation Network and will offer its users special benefits.
Sony said that gamers will be able to link their PlayStation Network account to Spotify and subscribe to its premium service using their PlayStation Network wallet feature.
Sony revealed that another unique feature will be the gamers will be able to enjoy Spotify music while playing their games. This means that anyone can add a favorite playlist and make it he perfect soundtrack for their favorite games.
Daniel Ek, founder and CEO of Spotify, said that his company is very honored about collaborating with Sony and PlayStation. This partnership will give gamers everywhere a real unique and exciting experience, Ek added.
Ek said that he is a gamer himself and cannot wait to add his favorite songs and listen to them while playing FIFA 15.
Sony announced that it will close the current Music Unlimited service that is available in 19 countries. The service will be discontinued on March 29.
Sony said that those who are still subscribed to Music Unlimited will get free access to the service until March 29. Also, these users will be offered an introductory Spotify Premium service.
Andrew House, group CEO and president of Sony Computer Entertainment, stated that the new partnership will offer the best in gaming and the best in music, and both companies are very excited to work together on this new music service.
The new deal with Spotify is part of a larger effort of rebranding Sony’s services. Sony announced that its games, video, TV and music services will be under the new PlayStation Network name.
