The company has already taken a step in the domain of e-commerce by introducing the Buy button last autumn. However you cannot find much about a product from a simple tweet, so the company has decided to make it easier for users to discover products. In order to do so the company will create pages for certain products in order to provide more details about them. This way shopping using Twitter will become much easier.
So on Friday Twitter will roll out product pages and Collections, which represent pages where you can check information about a certain product or place and shop it. A product page will contain a buy button, the price, tweets regarding the product and user reviews. The features is available on the web and on both iOS and Android devices.
Collections is rather a browsing experience, where you can find a series of recommended places and products selected by a high-profile curator or a brand. Ellen DeGeneres has such a Collection, which is called “Best of the Ellen Shop”. Here you can find Ellen-branded products or other products which she features on her show. Other such Collections include HBO’s Game of Thrones #GoT Fan Favorites, Target’s Swim & Sun Ready collection, Demi Lovato’s collection, and Nike’s LeBron Elite collection.
Also if you try to tweet “5 smart kitchen gadgets” it might seem like a normal tweet, but if you open it you will get more and each one will take offer information different gadgets. The tweets will send you to pages of products.
You will not be able to buy all the products which are highlighted. When you click on some links you may reach other parts of the web where you can purchase. Retailers have the opportunity to choose whether they want to sell their products on Twitter or prefer to redirect users to other sites. For now retailers are likely to do both in order to check which method attracts more customers.
This comes after Twitter announced its Lightning project on Thursday. These updates might be beneficial for the company whose situation has not been so good on Wall Street lately.
For now this experience is being tested and the company mentioned in a blog post:
“This is just the beginning. In the coming months we’ll be testing more new experiences we hope give you the most personalized and relevant information about the places and things you want to explore.
