New Alarm from Microsoft Will Not Let You Snooze

By Leave a Comment

"screenshot of the new Mimic Alarm"

The Mimic Alarm makes the user take a picture of himself, of an object or say a certain tongue twister.

If you’re the kind of person who can’t get out of bed without delaying the alarm a couple of times and ends up late for work, and you have an Android phone, the new alarm from Microsoft will not let you snooze your day away. The new features include having to utter some serious tongue twisters in order to make it stop ringing.

The Mimicker Alarm, as it was named, is much more complex than any alarm apps that have hit the market so far. While the others require the user to solve a piece of a puzzle or draw a rather complicated pattern, the Mimicker makes the person that uses it to complete a “Mimics” challenge out of the three possible within 30 seconds.

The app devised by Microsoft is rather clever and very tricky. While some of the features are classics like letting you see all of your alarm lists, program different alarms for various days, or the same one for all the days of the week, choose your alarm ringtone and others, there are some which makes it unique.

If a user chooses to install and use the Mimicker Alarm, he will have a possibility of a 5-minute snooze when the alarm first goes off. After that, once the person hits the button “Wake Up” he or she will have to complete a challenge from the three that are available with the app.

The three tasks available for now are to mimic a certain facial expression from sad, to surprised and happy (maybe Microsoft thought that sleepy and angry are default features that will not make the user make any real effort), take a picture of an object of a certain color or say some phrases that can be real tongue twisters and require your absolute attention.

But there is a catch. You only have 30 seconds to complete these challenges because the new alarm from Microsoft will not let you snooze. If you can’t do the task given to you in half a minute, the alarm will go off again thinking you want to cheat and went back to sleep.

Microsoft’s Garage program is responsible for the development of this App. This means that the pesky morning alarm was built by employees in their free hours. It’s a job that was done by some friends that work together, had an idea, and relaxed while developing it.

The new alarm from Microsoft will not let you snooze, but it will let you share your morning mandatory facial expression picture with your friends on social media.

Microsoft Is Bringing Word Flow To iPhones

By Leave a Comment

"word flow"

Fans of iOS might be getting a pleasant surprise soon enough, as Microsoft is bringing Word Flow to iPhones, meaning it will no longer be a Windows phone exclusive. It seems the tech giant is ready to move on with their services on other platforms. Next stop, iPhone’s default keyboard.

Word Flow is arguably the best feature of Windows phones, with exceptional speed and intuitive software that makes typing on its keyboard easier. The software implies the user not lifting their finger from their screen as they write. It also uses suggestions, gestures, autocorrect, and support for multiple languages to be used with ease. It’s similar to third-party apps such as Swype.

Word Flow saves several taps, time, and has been the tool of one Guinness World Record holder.

The company boasts the achievement when one very nimble user shattered records by typing 160 characters in 18.44 seconds on Word Flow. The tagline speaks for itself: “How fast? Guinness Book of World Records-breaking fast.”. It’s one of the defining features of Lumia, and certainly one of the biggest perks. And now, that speedy technology is taking a step outside of its Windows boundaries and breaking into iOS.

Lucky participants of the Windows Insider Program were given the option of joining in on a beta test for Word Flow on iPhone 5S or any other of the younger versions. It’s the world’s fastest smartphone keyboard, and it’s ready to tackle other operating systems. While trials are underway, it’s likely that the feature will appear on Android soon enough. Provided the testing comes out with successful results.

It seems Microsoft is determined on breaking out of their operating system and expanding their apps. It has happened numerous times before in the past. They take the exclusive applications and bring them to other operating systems, such as iOS and Android in order to cover all users on all platforms. And, for the most part, it has worked beautifully for Microsoft.

Its famous applications, such as Microsoft Office and Skype, have been carefully adapted to other versions of Android or iOS. The same has been done with  Google’s Play Store for the purpose of promoting all their Android apps, as well as taking a few slots in the Apple App Store. Microsoft continued their expansion in 2015 when they introduced their very own Cortana to other operating systems.

However, the latter has not yet taken over Android’s Google Now or iOS’s Siri as their main digital personal assistant. Not every adaptation will be a success.

Search engine giant Google is currently revamping its Android smartphone system in order to power virtual reality headsets, a person familiar with the matter said following the unexpected success of its Cardboard VR viewer.

The move will bring both tech bigwigs Google and Facebook into a direct competition.

Facebook’s Oculus VR has partnered with leading Android smartphone maker Samsung on developing the Gear VR headset.

Meanwhile, Google has turned down the request for comment on its plans for Virtual Realty.

According to two people familiar with the project, Google has formed an engineers’ team for building a version of the Android operating system so as to power the applications based on virtual reality applications.

Android has emerged as the most popular smartphone operating system in the world.

The project is presently just speculative as no virtual-reality devices are yet shipping in large numbers. But the gaming firms, filmmakers and several others related to creative field are seeing huge promise in the field.

Android is an open operating system that is available for free to the hardware makers. Currently, there are four versions of Android, for the use in smartphones, wearable devices, cars and televisions.

Nokia N1 Android tablet Shocks the Android Users

By

Nokia N1Nokia has decided to launch an Android-powered tablet, marking the Finnish company’s return to consumer electronics. This surprise launch pits the firm against Microsoft, which has completed its takeover of Nokia’s previous mobile-devices business in April 2014.

The N1 tablet is due to go on sale in China in the starting of the year 2015, and then other countries.

Nokia also said that it was not making the device itself, but has given its license to the brand, design, and software to the third-party. The Taiwanese manufacture Foxconn is the new license.

Sebastian Nystrom, head of products at Nokia Technologies told reporters that, “This is a great product for Nokia fans and everyone who has not found the right Android tablet yet.” He announced this at the Slush technology conference in Helsinki.

One of the company watchers was startled by this move. He further added that, “I am shocked how quickly Nokia has decided to do this. However, if Nokia was going to do anything with its brand, it was going to have to do it quickly.

About the Android Skin

The new N1 tablet is a 7.9 inches aluminium-framed tablet, whose design resembles that of iPad Mini.

Unlike Apple’s device, however, it is powered by Google’s Android 5.0 operating system, features a strong Intel Atom processor and has a Micro-USB slot. The planned retail price of N1 tablet is $249.

This tablet is going to turn the Nokia’s image and market because it supports an amazing interface with Android in it.
