Search engine giant Google seems to be getting more serious these days about its cardboard-based headset.

The tech company has unveiled a new web page for the low-cost virtual reality that will collect the best apps for download and showcase latest SDKs for Android and Unity devs to play.

Google Cardboard, a cardboard cutout, facilitates mounting of phone right in front of the users’ eyes for a VR-headset.

According to the reports, Google has now shipped 500,000 units of Cardboard.

As the virtual reality and augmented reality getting more and more popular these days, it is now becoming increasingly easy to look toward the future of technology.

“It’s this same spirit that inspired our team to turn a smartphone, and some cardboard, into a virtual reality (VR) viewer earlier this year. Suddenly, exploring the Palace of Versailles was as easy as opening an app. And the response was kind of delightful,” said Google in a statement.

With the release of Google Cardboard, Google matched the footsteps of Facebook that has brought USD 2 billion Oculus VR for the world of virtual reality.

Google has released the new specifications about its Cardboard. Besides it has also grouped the app that are compatible with Cardboard on the Google Play Store. They believe this will allow the users to view them as well as launch them straight from their viewer.

It’s not only Google or Facebook that has been working on any VR product. But a large number of other firms have also launched their own Cardboard-inspired products. Currently, the Play Store carries more than two dozen apps for Cardboard,

A total of four manufacturers are presently selling Cardboard using Google’s specifications between the price range USD 15 and USD 35.
