After Mars, global space agencies seem to be now getting fascinated toward Venus, Earth’s closest planet, for their various celestial expeditions.
In a new development in this regard, US space agency NASA has announced that it is planning to visit planet Venus, as it offers a great possibility of colonization and exploration.
According to NASA scientist Chris Jones, many scientists at the US space agency are focusing on the Mars and comets and now others have been asked to start to eye Venus.
Jones works on the High Altitude Venus Operational Concept at NASA.
There is huge prospect that NASA will send a manned mission to the Earth’s closest planet. Scientists believe that as it is closer to Earth, it may cost less to explore.
Mars is attracting the US scientists and has become target of the US space exploration program because it offers favourable and tolerable conditions just like the Earth. Scientists say Venus is now under the surveillance by NASA via three active robotic rovers. The agency is also planning to send astronauts to the Venus by 2030.
But there are many hurdles in the way of NASA before it actually make its plan to send human on Venus. There are some scientists who are bidding for Venus as the first destination to send human instead of Mars, but the atmospheric conditions prevailing at Venus may turn down NASA’s plan, at least for some time unless they develop any technology to combat the Venus’ oven-like global temperature that has an atmospheric pressure of toxic gases which is 90 times more than Earth’s. Scientists also say on Venus there is rains of sulfuric acid and not water. Hence, the present conditions on the planet’s surface are not best suited for human.
Meanwhile, the NASA researchers have found that they can hover a few miles away from Venus atmosphere as the pressure and temperature and overall atmosphere are similar to Earth.
The Systems Analysis and Concepts Directorate of Langley Research Center of NASA carried a new study and found that astronauts could orbit Venus in a helium-inflated airship and conduct their experiments.
