Since cars are going eco and are so high on technology, Bill Nye the Science Guy sees NASCAR go electric as well.
Although you might believe that there is no comparison that could be done between the cars from a race track and the cars from the road, you might be surprised to learn that there are many similarities and many characteristics are borrowed from one another. Moreover, race cars are a true inspiration for car lovers and making a change in them could inspire changes in the entire industry.
Bill Nye believes that converting all race cars to electricity and showing everyone how well they work, could lead to a change in the cars on the roads, as all fans will be interested in having an electric car.
Of course, there are going to be several people giving several reasons against this. First of all, an electric car will not be as powerful as a race car. A NASCAR race car can get up to 850 hp while an electric car like the Tesla Model S gets only up to 532 hp. However, the race car was especially designed for race, whereas the electric car is a simple sedan designed for commercial purpose and it is supposed to be affordable for the average consumer.
If electric cars are introduced at NASCAR, then it is most likely that in a few years’ time, car makers will up the stakes and produce a lot more powerful electric cars. It would also be better for the racers as they will spend less time refueling. They only have to press a button to replace the battery instead of waiting for the tank to fill up.
Another change would be the noise. NASCAR can be quite noise polluting. But introducing electric cars would make everything a lot quieter. On the other hand, not all fans will be enjoying this as the engine noises are part of the race car industry.
Another downside would be that the biggest NASCAR inventors: Ford and Chevrolet only have one model of electric car each. Therefore, it would mean a great investment. However, on the long term, it should turn out to be a lot less expensive than the current industry.
And last but not least, switching to electric cars would lead to a lower level of carbon pollution. First of all, because race cars are truly dangerous for the environment, and second of all, because if this spikes a new trend, in 20 years there will be more electric cars on the roads as well, and this is at least one step forward towards saving our planet.
