Following a call to the national security hotline, the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police Officers stormed Greenvale. They took in custody 17-year-old young man and confiscated the improvised explosive devices in what looked as a terror plot.
The young man has been charged for his intention to detonate the horrifying explosive devices on Mother’s Day. While his name has not been revealed, the youth will face a closed court on Monday and is facing a serious penalty for possession of explosive devices, plotting a terrorist attack and his intentions to detonate them.
Thankfully, the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police took action just in time to cancel the 17-year-old’s plans. The three devices found at his house were detonated in a nearby Greenvale park. Statements coming from the joint forces declare that the community is not facing any more perilous acts and is out of any imminent threat.
AFP Deputy Commissioner Mike Phelan expressed his regret concerning the events:
„These are extremely serious offences and they did involve the use of improvised explosive devices. It is deeply troubling to police that such young people are becoming disaffected in the way in which they are”.
At the same time, it was declared that the youth was, at least of what is known so far, non-affiliated to international terrorist groups. The raid in Greenvale was also not connected to the April 18 raids in Operation Rising. This operation came as a result of a tip-off that an Islamic State terrorist attack was being planned for Anzac Day. The Australian Federal Police reacted rapidly and put an end to the story before it took its toll.
Public safety ranks high among the Australian Federal Police’s priorities, thus tolerance towards such intentions is low. Communities are working hard together to diffuse any possible threats to their existence.
It is shocking that only last month five other young people were taken into custody for plotting against national security. Even though there is a heap of evidence to be analyzed in order to reach a correct conclusion, the facts speak for themselve.
The surge in teenagers who are working against their communities is an alarm signal for Australia. In Melbourne, where all these events happened, the effects would be catastrophic. Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria State and Australia’s second largest.
From this perspective, both the Federal Police and the Victoria State Police are keeping a great record of diffusing terror plots.
