Valve has set itself apart as the one of the leading gaming platforms, not just because of the exceptional games it showcases, but also because of the massive prizes in the professional scene. The upcoming International 2015 has already reached the $13 million stretch goal and the current prize pool reached a whopping $13.4 million on Saturday evening.
The concept behind such massive prize pools is simple: Dota 2 enthusiasts are invited to contribute by acquiring the “Compendium”, an in-game book worth $9.99 which allows buyers to earn rewards and offers in-game perks. A percentage of the price of the compendium is contributed to the prize pool.
But what’s most remarkable is the amount of time in which such a sum was collected: The International 2015 Compendium went on sale on May 1st.
Even so, Valve continues to impress and using the International 5 momentum, it recently unveiled Dota 2 Reborn. The original game’s overhaul will include major gameplay shifts, improved graphic as well as custom games and maps.
The overall feel is that Valve is attempting to go for a sleek look.
According to Valve, Dota 2 Reborn will represent a complete transformation. The dashboard will use a new UI framework and profile information will be more easily accessible than before. Additionally, in-game features will make the experience more enjoyable. For one, party management has been reworked so that players will be able to merge parties or assign party leaders.
New players will also enjoy revised tutorials showcasing game mechanics and step-by-step gameplay. Valve has also prepared guided bot matches, where newbies will learn Dota 2 in fun and educational ways.
Perhaps one of the most interesting features, though, is the new hero-specific MMR (matchmaking rank). This will allow party members to inspect relevant in-game statistics such as hero-specific play and MMR and performance in relation to overall MMR.
Moreover, Valve has also prepared a statistics pentagon much like that of Pro Evo 6. A number of factors are analysed: Pushing, Farming, Supporting or Versatility. And you can also measure your virtual manhood by comparing other statistics such as Aegis snatches or camps stacked.
In-game quality has also improved as streaming will now be possible in 1080p.
The Dota 2 Reborn open beta will launch next week and soon after the International 2015, the full update will be available to all users.
